LEGO has had a ton of memorable crossovers in recent years. Now the popular brick building toy is transforming its brand into another popular 80s franchise. LEGO has announced that they are teaming up with Hasbro for bricks that are more than they appear. Specifically, a LEGO version of Transformers“Optimus Prime. This is the first time these two toy giants have worked together.

This LEGO build of the Autobot leader, inspired by his G1 appearance, is a whopping 1,508 pieces and stands 35cm tall in robot mode. You heard right, this LEGO robot transforms and also has a vehicle mode. It’s one of the few LEGO-branded products to have two different modes, with no need to rebuild it, and stands 15cm tall in vehicle mode. The figure also has 19 points of articulation and includes an ion blaster, Autobot Matrix of Leadership, Energon axe, Energon cube and jetpack. The only downside to this awesome nostalgic trip is that it will cost you $169.99.

COLLIDER VIDEO OF THE DAY

When talking about his excitement for this upcoming collaboration Senior Designer of the LEGO Group, Joseph Patrick Kydementioned:

“It was an honor and a joy to work with Hasbro to develop a LEGO version of Optimus Prime! I am thrilled to see these two toy companies come together for the first time to celebrate the leader of the Autobots. Optimus Prime has become a a pop culture symbol of courage, selflessness, and great leadership, as well as an awesome toy that embodies the problem-solving and creative skills that both companies value so much. It’s been a wonderful and challenging task from him bring it to life using LEGO bricks, especially ensuring it can change modes without disassembly and stay true to its look and style.

Transformers Optimus Prime.

When the Transformers An animated series premiering in 1984, the franchise quickly became a mega-hit spawning numerous action figures, comics, video games, and movies. Optimus Prime has always been central to the success of this franchise. The design of this heroic leader is so classic and the voice actor, Peter Cullen, has made Optimus one of the most singular characters in any popular franchise. It’s a voice that always finds a way to send shivers down your spine. Optimus also has some of the most quoted lines in all of pop culture. Whether it’s inspiring or simply epic, you always want to fight alongside it. No matter how many times you hear him tell his Autobots to “deploy”, you always feel like you’re hearing him for the first time as a happy five-year-old.

Because of all of this, it’s surprising that this is the first time Hasbro and LEGO have worked together. the Transformers are just as synonymous with toys as they are with their TV shows or movies. Hopefully this is a sign of more sets to come with more iconic characters like Bumblebee or Megatron. The Transformers feel like they were made for the LEGO treatment. This Optimus Prime proves it more than.
