Bedford, Mass., March 15, 2022 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — A new era for adhesives has arrived for manufacturers looking for structural strippable adhesive solutions to avoid waste and reduce manufacturing costs. Today, conagenethe biotechnology innovator, announced the development of highly sought-after peel-off hot melt adhesives made from high-performance materials derived from sustainable and natural biomolecules.

“Conagen has solved the challenges manufacturers face by seeking strong structural adhesives that last long, perform well, and have the valuable ability to break adhesion before final finishing operations to deliver flawless products,” said J. McNamara, vice president of chemical applications.

The advantages of high strength removable adhesives benefit many industries. For example, smartphones and electronic devices can be effortlessly repaired and deconstructed at end of life without damaging components for the recovery and recycling of valuable parts currently in landfill.

“Conagen’s patented peel-off hot melt adhesive is incredibly stronger than what is currently used on the market and can outperform petroleum-based products with a long-lasting advantage that saves time, money and reduces waste,” McNamara said.

McNamara further states, “The unexpected boost in performance comes from Conagen’s fermented ingredients already at full industrial scale. And, “Conagen is open to discuss marketing opportunities with manufacturers interested in a new era of performance materials.

Adhesives offer many advantages in joining materials, including ease of use compared to welding, sealing, stress distribution and environmental resistance. Currently, manufacturers glue two pieces together and wait for a day to harden the bond. If there are any imperfections in the bonding, the bonded products are discarded as they cannot be peeled off, resulting in waste of time and material.

Today, most reactive hot melt adhesives rely on post-cure chemistry to develop adhesive strength. A disadvantage of this approach is that the curing process is irreversible and as such hinders or almost entirely prevents debonding.

While Conagen’s hot melt adhesive ingredients are commonly found in nature, to develop durable release adhesives, Conagen leverages its precision fermentation technology to design a synthetic pathway independent of plant-derived materials, creating ingredients more efficient and sustainable bio-based products than can be obtained with chemically synthesized versions.

Conagen’s inspiration is self-healing materials, using sustainable and natural ingredients, turning them into high strength peel-off hot melt adhesives. “The process is as simple as cutting the plastic which regenerates in less time than the conventional method,” McNamara said.

Conagen adhesive is unique because it is a cross-linked material designed with reversibility in mind that has the strength of traditional curing adhesives with the added benefit of changing to a flowable material upon heating.

Conagen’s release adhesive formulation is ideal for cars, boats, planes, transportation, consumer electronics and appliances, as well as military and industrial applications. And adhesives in electric vehicles (EVs) are more prevalent than conventional automobiles.

The adhesives market was worth $729.11 billion in 2019 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.3% from 2020 to 2027, making Conagen’s adhesive formulation lucrative in the equipment manufacturers market. origin (OEM).

Conagen’s hallmark in the specialty and industrial space is discovering applications from the platform of natural bio-compounds and bio-materials for a new era of materials that are both high performance and sustainable.

“Our adhesive formulation continues to show promise for bonding a wide range of materials, such as metal, plastic and glass,” McNamara said. “We’re making it easier for companies to adopt a more natural stance in manufacturing while staying true to the performance of their products.”
