DETROIT (FOX 2) – Four people are recovering from a multi-vehicle accident on Detroiteast side Wednesday.

The accident happened at Eight Mile near Van Dyke, injuring four people, but they are expected to be fine.

“We were just doing our thing like we do every day, answering the phone, taking care of customers when all of a sudden we just hear a big boom and as we hear it, we hear more booms and booms,” said said Jeff Savaya. .

Savaya works at Holbrook Auto Parts on Eight Mile – the accident happened in front of the store.

“We were so shocked,” he said. “We had a few customers inside, they all looked and we saw cars hitting cars, over cars, and then a big U-Haul came in and kind of rushed everyone.”

Firefighters had to help two women out of one of the cars. They and two others were taken to a local hospital. No less than six vehicles were involved in the accident.

Savaya’s car was also damaged.

“Thank goodness it was hit and only one door needs to be replaced,” he said.

It’s unclear exactly what led to the crash, but bystanders say one thing isn’t: This crash could have been much worse.

“Because this kind of accident – I thought several people died,” he said. “I thought that.”

Passers-by praised the quick response of firefighters and police. The accident is still under investigation.
