Google announces another long-awaited Android auto-patch

Google recently announced another big fix for Android Auto, as the company revealed that the issue causing the app to freeze or go black with Oppo phones should now be gone.

This time, however, the update does not come in the form of a new version of Android Auto, but in the form of new firmware released by the manufacturer of the phone itself.

According to Google, installing the C.68 OS update should bring everything back to normal when running Android Auto, although it goes without saying that you should also make sure that you also use the latest version of Google apps.

“Thanks for all the feedback. The team has implemented a fix for the issue in OS Update C.68 and later. If you are still having the problem, please check the manufacturer’s instructions to update your operating system to the latest version. If this does not solve the problem, please let us know with the details of the version of the operating system you are using,“a member of the Android Auto team Explain.

The only problem is that the update is not yet available for all models, so users have no choice but to wait for the new version to be available on their devices as well.

Many of those who have found that Android Auto freezes or turns black when their Oppo phones enter a locked state have confirmed that generic workarounds usually don’t make a difference.

So if you’re planning on trying another cable or clearing Android Auto’s cache and data, it’s pretty much a waste of your time, and Oppo’s new update confirms that everything happens at the operating system level and is not an application specific error.

Several users confirmed in the linked Google thread that installing the update fixes Android Auto in their cars, while others claim that even the August Android 11 update improved the overall experience. by correcting flashing screens and frequent disconnections.
