The New York City Department of Sanitation has announced the schedule of Solvent, Automotive, Flammable and Electronics (SAFE) Disposal Events for Fall 2021. Events offer city residents an easy way to safely dispose of potentially harmful household products.
Household products such as pesticides, harsh cleaners, mercury-containing appliances, paints, automotive fluids, and medications can be brought to drop-off events. Residents can also bring electronic devices, which can no longer be collected with garbage and other recycling, due to state law. Only residential city waste will be accepted and residents interested in attending must register in advance for a time slot.
“Following a COVID-related postponement, we are excited to bring back our SAFE disposal events this fall,” said Remediation Commissioner Edward Grayson. “Residents know of these events as a quick and easy way to get rid of their potentially hazardous products. Although residents will need to register in advance this year, we look forward to seeing many of our neighbors take full advantage. “
